From the moment I picked up one of Jane Lewis’ books I was enthralled. A down-to-earth author who brings you right into the book. The scenes in Home in Wylder, just one of the marvelous books in the Wylder West series, sharpens to a crystal clear clarity as you read her words and get to know the characters she has brought to life. Sarah Miller is a genteel lady who because of scandal gets sent out west. The Wylder, Wyoming town comes as quite a shock for the born and bred Savannah miss. Her fear and dread of what she might find in what she considers a wilderness comes to fruition when she runs into a couple of no-goods who have nothing better to do than accost and threaten her, until one-man steps forward.
Daniel Taylor’s luck in getting the women he falls in love with to stay in the vast and dangerous Wyoming territory ,is woefully lacking. They always leave him and go back east. He can’t help but wonder if the beautiful but courageous Sarah will do the same. His frustration in not knowing hampers his ability to tell her how he feels until it is almost too late.
When danger strikes out against the woman he cares for, Daniel must fight those who mean her harm as well as himself in order to do what is right for Sarah.

If you’re looking for a book that will whisk you back to the Old West, complete with all its sounds, scents and perils, this story is for you. From the moment it began, with a Southern Bell arriving in the town of Wylder, Wyoming and encountering its dangers, I was taken by the characters. Beautiful Sarah Miller has no idea what she’s let herself in for, when she takes refuge with her aunt following a scandal in Savannah, Georgia. But she finds out all too quickly. In steps a hero, Daniel Taylor—a strong man carrying a few scars on his heart. Daniel knows what he wants almost from the first. But he’s been cut deep before. And it looks like history just might repeat itself.
This book had me holding my breath at times, and applauding a strong heroine. I’m not going to spoil any surprises, but for me the combination of convincing storyline and wonderful characters made this read special. I hope Daniel’s friend, Callum, will get a story of his own. Can’t wait for the next installments in this Wylder West series!

Our Review: There are many good qualities to this story. Perhaps one of the strongest is the author’s ability to create a colorful setting, paying particular attention to the details surrounding the “old west”, then populating it with multi-layered, compelling characters—each one different from the next and equally enchanting. Well done, Ms. Lewis.
On a scale of 1-5, Home in Wylder deserves a 6.
