If it is a Tena Stetler story, I will pick it up and read it. Ms. Stetler’s writing style is distinctive for me. It reminds me of the 90’s when I first fell into the paranormal romance genre and never left. This latest book with angels mixing with mortals includes… time travel. For some reason, it seems as if the time travel aspect is a current trend. Or perhaps I just happen to be picking up more time travel books. This one involves going to the late 1800s with an interracial couple. This should be interesting.
Ms. Stetler’s writing style reminds me of the Nora Roberts of old where the book goes into detail about the character’s occupation. For some people, this may be dry and boring. For me, I’m riveted. I am not sure how accurate the blacksmith job is like back in the late 1800s, but I learned quite a bit. I enjoy delving deep into a vocation that I know little about. I admire authors who can educate readers with something new and make it interesting. Reading about everyday life in the late 19th century with the lack of indoor plumbing and central heating is interesting to me. I liked seeing how the characters struggled with manual labour, cooking over a wood stove, and trying to keep their house warm.
For time travelers such as Killian and Chinoah, it is a harder assignment than expected. They are to find a demon trying to change the past. This may have been the plot of the story, but definitely took a backseat to adjust to the late 1800s. Even the romance between Killian and Chinoah took precedence over their job assigned by the Angel Legion Commander. I’m okay with this because I loved learning about their experience in pioneer times. The compare and contrast between current times versus the past fascinate me. Makes me wonder if I could have hacked it.
This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who enjoy westerns and time traveling.
